3/72 Rahmenkonstruktion / 3/72 Frame Construction
Alf Lechner’s works stand for the greatest possible simplicity and clarity. Here are four cubes, the edges of which were forged out of square steel rods. Two adjacent cubes form a base for the other two cubes. While one of the top cubes rests in line with the base, the other is tilted diagonally and points one of its corners into each of its neighbors. This simple construction, which looks like a geometric sketch, results in a surprisingly complex spatial structure with multiple overlapping elements. The viewer’s ability to imagine the tilted cube in another position has been deliberately calculated by the artist.
