Attila

The Swiss sculptor Paul Suter has been creating monumental outdoor sculptures since 1972, for which he uses straight iron struts and sweeping arcs that, set in colour, look like three-dimensional drawings in space. By contrast, the work entitled “Attila” is a composition of straight segments that rise dynamically from the ground, form a complex centre of gravity at mid-height and then continue to grow up into space in two opposing diagonals. The abstract form thus created can be seen as a composition of aspiring lines or as a kind of lightning bolt that deploys its power from the top to the bottom. In any case, the heaviness of the material is superseded by a movement in space that gives it a new dynamic.

The sculpture is a donation from Dr. Eleonore and Dr. Michel Stoffel to the City of Cologne.
