Blobster
The base of this sculpture is a large angular M made out of steel beams that looks like a cross between a triumphal arch and a fast food logo. A peculiar object rests on top: although it is composed of geometric prism-shaped surfaces, the structure slumped over half of the horizontal beam is essentially an amorphous blob. To one passerby it may look like a chewed piece of gum, to someone else, a legless ant – there are countless possible associations, but the sculpture remains indefinable and alien.
Gereon Krebber believes that art shouldn’t blend in to public space in a decorative, unambiguous, and easily consumable way; instead, it should primarily attract attention, facilitate a gradual approach, and stimulate discussion. The Blobster creates this opportunity – especially because of its many possible interpretations.
