China Daily
The bronze sculpture China Daily – Services top task for Games was completed in 2007, based on an enlarged clay model of a crumpled page from the Chinese newspaper China Daily. The page contains news about the preparations for the Summer Olympics in Beijing in 2008.
The pro-government paper only reported on trivial matters, despite the fact that it was a controversial event; accordingly, the sculpture is depicted as a crumpled sheet of paper. In his figurative work, Wang Du creates three-dimensional structures from different media sources, which derive their impact from significant enlargement and the transfer to a less perishable and transient material.
