Chip

It is rare to find a work of art that feels as much like a “foreign body” as Chip, which looks like a dark object hovering above the paved square because of its limited contact with the ground beneath it. Made up of gently concave and convex steel plates that are joined to create sharp edges, it forms a structure that most resembles an oversized flint or a UFO from an unknown galaxy. The sculpture is simultaneously archaic and futuristic, organic and technological. Chip cannot be assimilated by a “suitable” environment or a clear interpretation of the content: it remains intentionally foreign, taking a stance against the overly obvious for the autonomy of art.
