Dicker nackter Mann / Fat Naked Man
The Fat Man has taken on a “celebrity” status in Troisdorf and the surrounding areas. ” In 1988, the city organized the Troisdorfer Kunstgang, a sculpture exhibition, in collaboration with the Troisdorf gallery owners Inge Donath, Sigi Theisen, and Brigitte Vetere. One figure particularly attracted a lot of attention: a bronze statue of a naked man. Art lovers suggested buying it. The administration and cultural committee called for donations.
Within a few weeks, they had the 55,000 Deutschmarks they needed: The fat man was to remain at Fischerplatz. Incidentally, the “original” of this bronze charicature was a 35-year old worker from Wolfsburg, whose body took on this specific shape under the influence of hunger, thirst, and a back problem.
