Dschungelinsel / Jungle Island

Within a triangle bordered on each side by three concrete steps, there is an island of bamboo and grasses with a palm tree in the middle. Ahnfeldplatz is one of a series of Plantation Projects found in Düsseldorf (including the first island on Berliner Allee), Berlin, and Hamburg. In the 80s, a number of residents were dissatisfied with the square and the Building Department redesigned it in 1992, but it was left to gradually wither away over time. Tita Giese did the most recent transformation with exotic plants.
