Filters

As part of a sculptor symposium, the participating artists created sculptures to be located at an inland port. For his contribution, Peter Könitz placed Filters along the quay wall. Three stainless steel funnels are installed side-by-side on the wall and held in place from above by a support beam. Their wide openings point upwards and catch rainwater, which they then release directly into the Vinckekanal. Located within sight of a sewage treatment plant on the other side of the canal, this work echoes the shapes found there, but turns them upside down. The Filters function ad absurdum, as the water can drain out immediately after being collected anyway. The installation of the artwork appears industrial and functional, allowing it to integrate perfectly with its surroundings. However, this overall appearance is simply a form a camouflage or sort of mimicry, so that the autonomous work of art can sneak in inconspicuously.
