Große Flora / Great Flora Archive
Although the sculpture measures over four meters tall, it looks like a tiny seedling in front of the large rectangular architectural structure of the bank building. Despite its geometric and abstract formal language, it appears organic and dynamic here. Even though it’s made out of bronze, the coloring seems more warm than metallic.
Fritz Koenig’s Great Flora seems to take an intermediary position between the extremes. This work depicts a growing plant (perhaps a tulip or onion) with a stem and flower. Its round shapes stand in contrast to the urban setting. It almost seems to be a monument to the natural growth that is rarely found in such a location.
