Heiersturm

Hans Peter Kuhn created a light and sound installation for the Heiersturm in Paderborn as part of the project Lichtszenario Stadtmauer Paderborn. 7 Türme – 7 Lichter in 2003/2004. In order to raise awareness of the historical city wall, which had largely disappeared through modern urban expansion, international artists were invited to engage with the wall and its towers.
With its remaining segments of the wall and spacious surroundings, Hans Peter Kuhn chose the Heiersturm for his work as a placeholder and representative of the entire wall and its historic significance. The long neon lights installed along the upper section of the tower not only light the structure and serve as modern counterpoints, but also draw attention to the surrounding city.
As a composer and sound artist, Kuhn supplemented his light installation with a sound collage that plays through six speakers, providing the attentive listener with an additional sensory encounter. In this work, new visual and acoustic sensations merge into a holistic and emotional experience of history and the present.
