Herner Ronden / Herne Rounds
This sculpture is includes seven circular elements made of heavy rusted steel in different sizes. It appears as if they were scattered around the square in front of the Herne train station like game pieces. Six of the disks stand upright, while the last one is lying on its side. One wonders whether it fell down, as it seems reasonable to assume that the other, slightly leaning disks could also tip over. The heaviness of the raw forged steel contrasts the apparent lightness and fragility of the arrangement. The resulting image is dynamic and powerful, while relying on a delicate balance. This work can certainly be understood as a symbol of the Ruhrgebiet.
