Im Dreieck / In the Triangle

Hans Günter Prager’s work makes reference to the Amtsgericht building behind it. As an artist who is typically preoccupied with basic geometric forms, Prager’s work reinterprets the shapes and proportions of the building’s triangular gable and round arched window. Three upright steel plates form an open triangle; a fourth circular plate leans from the ground onto one of the rectangles, thus forming a connecting element.
Prager’s minimalist sculptures always take the viewer’s reactions into account: the seemingly random and somewhat unstable appearance of the work draws attention. In turn, the formal connection with the building gable creates the impression that something that has fallen down or was dropped by accident. Viewers are encouraged to look at the sculpture from different perspectives, seeing it differently depending on where they stand. They are asked figure out how the elements relate to each other and perhaps even mentally go through all of the different construction possibilities. In this way, they are actively involved in the work.
