Kontrastmittel / Contrast Material
Sculptor Jáchym Fleig’s organic forms stand in opposition to the common style of geometric architecture that is dominated by right angles and straight lines. In his work, there are no standardized industrial materials and no smooth surfaces. Like wasp nests, tree fungi, lichens, or algae, his sculptures infiltrate the architecture and look as if they are in an unstoppable process of growth.
The reinforced concrete growth Contrast Material seems to have infested the parking garage wall like an uncontrollable fungus. In contrast to its overflowing curvature, the functional and cool design of the building becomes blatantly obvious. Paradoxically, it is the art here that represents natural growth and shows how opposing organic and constructive formal principles behave.
