Nature 3000 / Floating Stones

This work is made up of sculptural and media art elements that weave together the real and the virtual. In each of the six partner cities included in the ÜBER WASSER GEHEN sculptural initiative, the artists installed arrangements of large unprocessed stones on the banks of the Seseke or one of its tributaries. In particular, these stones stand out because some are arranged in strange formations at the side of the road and some appear to be floating.
Several have been provided with QR-codes that can be used to access the project’s homepage on a smartphone. The videos and images on the artists’ website depict a different, virtual, and defamiliarized perspective of nature. In this way, an additional virtual and ambiguous level of perception is added to the supposedly unique experience of the landscape.
In direct comparison to actual location, the reality of the internet worlds can be critically questioned. By combining the real on-site interventions with the digital depictions, the artists build a bridge between the “real” and “fictitious,” “material” and “immaterial,” “natural” and “artificial.”
The starting point for this media-art project is an octagonal pavilion located along the Seseke in Kamen-Mitte. There is a Wi-Fi zone around the pavilion that makes it possible to access the project website: www.natur3000.org. From there, you can also load the videos in advance using an app.
