Nur Oben / Only Above
In its location on the median strip along the avenue, this tall signal red sculpture stands in stark contrast to the surrounding green trees and the geometrically structured facade of the grey bank building behind it. The color and form clearly point to Bogomir Ecker as the creator of this artwork, which nonetheless remains mysterious in its strangeness. The sculpture is made up of cylindrical and conical hollow forms that are asymmetrically stacked on a steel beam. The four different sized elements have holes in some places, which look like scattered black spots on the hollow forms. On the one hand, the sculpture looks technical and may remind viewers of a ventilation system that could be used in the surrounding large-scale architecture, for example. On the other, its appearance is akin to a clumsily stacked tower of building blocks. The black holes in the second cylinder from the top also give the sculpture an anthropomorphic character, making it look like a guard, monitoring the action on the busy street from above.
