Untitled

This large abstract sculpture only touches the ground in a few places and is composed of various steel plates and frames. It has been located along Brunowall since 1980, after having first been displayed on Markt for Bördetag, a festival in the old city. In this work, Wilfried Hagebölling explores the right angle to its maximum capabilities. Individual rectangular surfaces and spaces are joined together, so that they form a complex spatial structure that is clearly dominated by right angles. However, the overall composition is not upright, but installed at an angle. Here, the right angle doesn’t seem so dominant, but instead the two diagonals that lead up from the ground at about a 45-degree angle through the overall composition and out beyond it into the surrounding space.
