Untitled

The cuboid is as much as part of Josef Neuhaus’s uncompromising late work as the “infinite loop.” The vertical cuboid here contains no meaning or statement that beyond the work of art itself.
The sculpture is a foreign body in its location between the trees, fields, and meadows, which continuously change their appearance with the seasons. However, this monolithic stainless steel frame is not subject to the course of nature in the same way; at most, it calls for viewers to look at the surroundings in a new way.
Formed out of square steel bars and posts, the cuboid’s dimensions and proportions are based on precise calculations. In this way, the sculpture is a perfect expression of Neuhaus’s understanding of the term “concrete art” — a maximum degree of abstraction and the congruence of idea and form on a mathematical basis.
