PolSku
“MarlSku” was joined by “PolSku” two years later: Werner Graeff composes the titles of his works from abbreviations, with “Sku” standing for sculpture. So “MarlSku” is a sculpture for Marl, “PolSku” for the Marl district of Polsum. It was created for the 1972 “Stadt und Skulptur” (City and Sculpture) exhibition and remained in place as a permanent loan of the artist. The two sculptures show some similarities in form. They are about symmetry, which soon gets boring in its pure form and thus appears broken in abstraction. With “PolSku”, every perspective on the sculpture looks different. On one side it is a C-shaped basic form mirrored along a central axis, from which a circular bolt protrudes. The other side is far less symmetrical. Rather, it shows interlocking, not strictly geometric forms. The formation forms the upper end of a slim, tall column.
