PulsLicht Marina Rünthe / Pulse-Light Marina Rünthe

Mischa Kuball likes to use different forms of lighting as a medium in his work because light both literally and figuratively illuminates situations that would otherwise remain dark. As a result, it is not uncommon for his work to also have a social or historical dimension.
This light installation is located at the Maria Rünthe Marina, which was also the historic site of a massive coal heap and transshipment port until the 1990s. It was only after the end of this era in the Ruhrgebiet that the marina was developed with a promenade and grassy areas.
A total of 33 tall, mast-like lights make up this light installation at the docks. There are lamps that shine downward to light the path and a light that beams upward. The pulsing lights alternate, continuously creating new patterns and lighting situations for roughly four hours after nightfall.
