Reclining Crates
At first glance, this sculpture appears to be a ready-made, comprised of transport crates in different sizes with a thermos, a jug, a cup, and a lunchbox on top. However, they are not found objects, but actually bronze and concrete castings.
Furthermore, the way the crates are arranged quite literally forms a cubist image of a recumbent worker recuperating on his lunch break, as emphasized by the title: Reclining Crates (Cups Against Exploitation).
Here, the artist expresses an anti-capitalist attitude, as well as his solidarity with the working classes. However, his political message is not declared with forceful dogmatism, but instead is artistically multifaceted and humorous.
