Red Heels
This six-metre-high, six-ton statue by Pop artist Heiner Meyer is installed in front of the façade of the Ludwiggalerie Schloss Oberhausen. In keeping with its theme, the museum conceived the exhibition “Art about Shoes.” Luxury consumer goods representing a world of beautiful appearances also play a crucial role in the artist’s paintings and graphic artworks. In this case, we see the silhouettes of seven different high heels, cut out of steel and piled up in a quasi Louboutin-red pyramid. Associations of luxury, eroticism and an unbridled consumer-oriented lifestyle are evoked and may trigger admiring reflections in one viewer, critical ones in another.
