Rondo

Rondo is located between the Stadthalle and the Von der Heydt Museum on Johannisberg. Alike the musical refrain in a rondo, the sculpture’s curved segments repeat in a lively rhythm. The work is made from a large corten steel ring that was divided into two parts. Each of the two segments is creased once, forming two curved arches. The sculptural elements are arranged so that the rounded side of one rests on the flat stone base, while the other crosses over it in the opposite direction like a bridge. In this way, a dynamic and complex rhythm emerges, making it particularly astonishing that the composition is ultimately based on the simple form of a ring. This work is part of a (partially realized) sculpture trail and was donated to the Von der Heydt-Museum by entrepreneur and benefactor Heinz Olof Brennscheidt.
