Skulpturenpark Köln
Amidst the surrounding urban infrastructure, this ca. 40,000-square-meter sculpture park is an oasis of peace and contemplation. It is located in the triangle between Zoobrücke, Konrad-Adenauer-Ufer, and Riehler Straße. The park features works by artists from Anish Kapoor to Heimo Zobernig.
Skulpturenpark Köln was privately founded by the collectors Dr. Michael (d. 2005) and Dr. Eleonore (d. 2007) Stoffel in 1997. Since then, it has gained recognition within the national and international art community, as well as among the general public. Changing exhibitions make it possible to present a wide range of modern contemporary sculptures. The exhibition series KölnSkulptur is reminiscent of the Biennale, and has cemented its reputation with eight successful exhibitions and the accompanying catalogues.
The nonprofit Skulpturenpark Köln Foundation was founded in 2008. Since then, it has continued the Stoffels’ project, taking on the task of institutionally securing the future of the Skulpturenpark Köln and working to preserve it as a place of artistic dialogue and reflection amidst its unique symbiosis of nature and art. This ambitious undertaking is financed by the Michael and Eleonore Stoffel Foundation and the proceeds from renting the foundation house on Elsa-Brändström-Straße. It receives further funding from the city of Cologne, which supports the Skulpturenpark Köln as a cultural institution with a yearly operating grant. The exhibition series KölnSkulptur has previously been realized with the generous contributions of additional sponsors, supporters, and patrons.
