Iron Report
Situated in a green hilly area in Stadtpark Bochum, this towering three-part steel sculpture by Czech sculptor Ales Veselý is a complex and massive assemblage. The work, which the artist later titled Iron Report, was the result of more than 300 sketches and drafts that were produced over the course of a four-month realization phase as part of the 1. Bochumer Bildhauersymposium.
For this work, the artist welded a heavy steel ramp and combined it with found pieces of industrial scrap from the production of the iron and steel. It is carefully balanced on an elaborate foundation of different individual elements, struts and supports. Set apart from this main construction, there are two smaller objects that function as visual counterweights.
A variety of different materials that are typical of the region are represented in the sculpture. It combines elements that are heavy and dynamic, durable and vulnerable, rough and delicate, fragile and sustainable.
