Wäldchen / Copse
“Wäldchen” is a sound sculpture whose melody sequences are produced by solar energy. The ten slender rods each carry three different elements on their upper thirds: tubular resonating bodies, curved stainless steel arcs and a small solar module. Each of the modules absorbs solar energy and transforms it directly into harmonically coordinated sounds. Depending on the intensity of the sunlight, a small, ever-changing melody is created. When the sun shines it is rhythmic and fast, when it is cloudy it is rather quiet and low-key. At night, when it is dark, the artwork is silent, too.

geboren in Meliana (B. Roca/Spanien); lebt in Valencia/Spanien.
1974-1985
Studium Komposition am Konservatorium in Valencia.
1986-1988
Studium an der École Normale de Musique in Paris. Außerdem studierte er elektroakustische Musik und arbeitete im CeMAMu (Centre des Mathématiques et Automatiques Musicales) in Paris und in der Groupe de Recherches Musicales von Radio France.
1990
Rom-Preis des spanischen Außenministeriums für den Aufenthalt an der Spanischen Akademie für Schöne Künste in Rom.
1998
Preis für elektronische Kunst der ARCO-Stiftung.
2002
Endesa-Stipendium für Bildende Kunst.
2004
Biennale-Skulpturpreis Riofisa und Deutscher Klangkunst-Preis.
In der Lehre war José Antonio Orts in den Fächern Komposition und musikalische Formenlehre and den Konservatorien in Zaragoza, Badajoz und Valencia tätig.
