Wasserleinwand / Water Screen

This installation consists of a row of fountains that create a four by four meter wall of water. Like a movie screen, various images of European fountains, including several fountains from Bergkamen’s partner cities, are projected onto the water.

As such, it depicts a “fountain in a fountain.” It also creates a connection between the light art object and its location, the Platz der Partnerstädte (Partner City Square). In addition, the presentation gives the water a sculptural quality, enabling a new understanding of the fountain in general. The work plays with the dynamics of changing projections and colors.

The installation of the light fountain at the Platz der Partnerstädte in Bergkamen-Mitte was created in 2002 as part of a student competition in Timm Ulrichs’ master class at the Kunstakademie Münster. From April to October, the fountain operates on Fridays from dusk until midnight.
