Rheinschiene
BUSTLING URBANITY AND UNSPOILED COUNTRYSIDE
With the mountain ranges of the Bergisches Land, the densely populated river towns in the Rheinschiene, the lignite mining in the Börde, and the vast agricultural spaces on the left bank of the Rhine, it’s hard to imagine another region in Germany with such a dense and diverse cultural landscape.
The Rheinschiene is a vibrant region with a wide range of cultural highlights, institutions, and events. Between its urban centers and areas of untouched landscape, you will find evidence of the region’s diverse settlement and migration history at every turn: palaces, castles and mansions, monasteries and mills, trade routes that are thousands of years old, and relics of industrialization. Those are the cultural gems that give the Rheinschiene its history and identity.
Embedded in this unique landscape is a lively cultural scene made up of a variety of theaters, orchestras, museums and collections, foundations, libraries, music and adult education centers, and an independent arts community. Here, the traditional and modern, the down-to-earth and progressive all exist side by side on equal footing.
Region Köln/Bonn e. V. has integrated the responsibilities of the cultural office into its regional management in order to strengthen cultural influence throughout the region. They do this by initiating new collaborative projects, as well as by bundling and streamlining existing cultural opportunities. Parties from other areas, such as tourism, economy, and urban and regional development, are also involved.
