Bogenbrücke / Arch Bridge

A historic arch bridge from 1907 made of steel painted reseda green is turned into an interactive piece of light art by this light installation. The altitude of the sun, the current temperature and movements on the bridge are recorded and analysed to control the light. The visitors themselves contribute to determining which colours of a spectrum pre-set by Rolf Zavelberg are being used. The illumination of this industrial monument thus makes the influences of nature and human beings visible. The “basic colour” is determined by the temperature and changes about two or three times per evening. The temperature sensor registers how far the temperature drops and chooses the predefined colour combination accordingly. At 20 degrees Celsius, the basic colour is purple, at eight to 12 degrees yellow, around freezing point it glows turquoise, at minus two degrees blue. The bridge is part of a bicycle trail along the route of the former Wippertalbahn, the illumination is part of the Regionale project “Ohler Wiesen” (Ohl Meadows).
