Geschwungene Linie / Curved Line
Werner Pokorny’s works often move within a field of tension between abstract and figurative formal language. Likewise, this work can be seen as an abstract Curved Line made out of a square corten steel rod that is bent at a 90 degree angle in the middle and then again so that two legs of a triangle are formed. The two ends of the line then continue parallel to each other and develop from a geometric into a free curved form.
However, anyone who knows the sculptor’s work will also recognize the more figurative outline of a house, which has repeatedly been used as a starting point in his sculptures, among other simple subjects, such as the vessel, figure, or rib. Werner Pokorny made this steel sculpture as part of the art event Bildhauer in Menden on the “Hönneinsel,” a central park on the Hönne.
