Lichthorizont / Light Horizon

Versatile Freiburg artist Hans-Günther van Look was both a sculptor and painter, but he was particularly dedicated to designing glass windows, such as those in the Freiburger Münster. He also designed the wall behind the train tracks at Bahnhof Siegburg with paintings behind glass. The series begins with three vertical-format abstract paintings in shades of blue, continues with several striated blue panels, and stripes taper off to the end. This design reproduces the visual impression of accelerating motion, similar to what you might see when you look out of a train as leaves the station or when watching a train from the platform as it sets in motion. The artist describing the color ultramarine as the “organ of light,” and is not only interested in the optical effect of light, but also in its transcendent meaning.
