Untitled

This abstract sculpture consists of three interconnected parts. The artist designed it to be seen from all angles, which means that the viewer must move around it to take in its complete form. The three flat upright oval elements are curved evenly on both sides and lean slightly outward. The bottom edge of each element is connected to the base plate beneath the sculpture.
The ovals are far enough apart that you can see inside the sculpture, where it appears that the three objects have grown together as if they were organically connected. Its overall form is unmistakably organic: the combined ovals and rounded surfaces are reminiscent of an egg that the artist has divided into three parts. At the same time, the ovals could also be seen as petals on an abstract flower that opens upward. It is up to the viewer to decide what it represents.
The form betrays the artistic intention behind the sculpture: it is one of countless ways that the symbolic-abstract form of an artwork can depict concepts like nature and life. This concept can be found throughout Ladis Schwartz’s work, no matter how different his sculptures may be.
Much like its title, the date that the sculpture was installed in front of the Quirinus-Gymnasium could not be determined. However, when considered in the context of the Romanian sculptor’s complete works, it may have originated at the beginning of the 1980s.
