Untitled

Sandra Silbernagel’s work is a modified version of one of the traditional whip-style streetlights that can be found in the surrounding neighborhood. Located at the highest point of the rather flat municipality of Everswinkel, the lamppost has been provided with an antenna-like extension at the top and a mirror-plated ball around the lamp head. Because of its obvious resemblance, the untitled sculpture gained the nicknames “disco ball” and “our radio tower.” The work was a crowd pleaser at the exhibition Stille Winkel 2010 and was acquired in 2011.
During the day, the mirrored ball reflects its surroundings, splits them up across its numerous surfaces, and assembles them into an image that is constantly changing based on the weather and lighting conditions. At night, it looks like a second moon floating above the traffic island, making it a very special, somewhat romantic, and even glamorous place.
