Raumplastik / Spatial Sculpture

Because of its stone pedestal, this sculpture is reminiscent of a traditional statue; however, it is contrasted by the artist’s abstract method of expression, which has been popular in Informal Art since the 1950s. Norbert Kricke’s work features bundled groups of gestural that project into space in different directions.

This sculpture is made out of relatively short steel rods, which give it the appearance of a sketched line drawing that has been extended into three-dimensional space. It evokes associations with flying birds or a figure in motion. The composition creates a strong upward reaching sense of movement, which can be mentally extended into the surrounding space.

Accordingly, Norbert Kricke calls this family of works Spatial Sculptures, which physically explore the relationship of space and time by incorporating lines that can be extended continuously and creating a sense of movement.
